The BBC television show “Sherlock” represents
many Chinese elements in episode 2, season 1. However, those plots which
designed by western screenwriter are not very accurate.
The purpose of this study will be to explore
the misunderstanding of the Chinese elements in the BBC television show
“Sherlock” which designed by western screenwriters for western audiences.

statement of your research question
How did western
screenwriters misunderstand the Chinese elements in the BBC television show
“Sherlock Holmes”?
There
are three main kinds of error in “Sherlock”: Error of translation which is
represented in misuse of Suzhou numeral, error of garble which is represented
by garble of Chinese and Japanese painting and error of value which is represented
in value of jade hairpin. Those mistakes could also show westerners’ attitude of
China.
